Writers' Pantry #19: Birthing Hope

“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Greetings everyone! Hope you are safe and well! This is Sanaa and I am back with another exciting Writers' Pantry this Sunday.

There comes a time when pushing through despair and gloom becomes morally the right thing to do. Emotionally coping with the Pandemic is a challenge for us all; we tend to walk the road that is rooted in both empathy and logic, with one foot on each side the question is do we need to walk that path alone?

I strongly feel that we require a "buddy system," to ease anxiety levels and loneliness. Thanks to modern technology, we are now connected to each other regardless of being on either side of the world, online. Just dropping in to say hi from time to time (if nothing else) really helps. Think about it. Let us birth hope like the golden rays of the sun after the blackness of night.

Announcements and Reminders:

The topic for next Weekly Scribblings is "Lie to Me." Earlier this week, Rommy was put into a position where she needed to tell a little white lie. Though she didn't feel the same way about a topic others were sentimental about, she made sure to give polite comments.  She would like us to focus our words around lies or the idea of a lie, whether they are little ones or great big whoppers.

Rosemary delighted us with "Wild Fridays #18: Moonlight Musings," where she features Caitlin Johnstone and discusses the Importance of Narrative. Do scroll back and check it out in case you have missed it. This one is an absolute treat!

Remember, you have one whole week to participate in prompts now. Just keep in mind that some people may have moved on to their next project after a couple of days, so entries posted later might not receive many visitors.

For now, I invite you to share your entry, as Poets and Storytellers United welcomes both poetry and prose (i.e. stories, articles, essays) feel free to link anything old or new and relish in the work of others. Also, if you opt to share prose then please keep it to 369 words or fewer.

And now, without further ado, let us dive into the Pantry! Looking forward to grabbing a cup of cold coffee and reading you all. See you on the trail! πŸ’˜

  1. Buddies are nice, Sanaa. I feel ladies have them more than do the guys. On line is fine, in these small groups of blogging friends we have buddies but they are not very intense. Ditto here for Facebook,

  2. I think those of us who are used to making online connections are perhaps finding it easier than others. Or maybe it's a matter of age and/or life circumstances? I was in a writers' group yesterday (via Jitsi Meet) and whereas all the older people were finding it actually quite enjoyable to be in our bubbles, a couple of young mothers in the group were finding it stressful. Hard to amuse the littlies, home school them, and also take care of one's own needs such as yoga classes, meeting up with friends., and just plain time out...

    1. I absolutely agree, it could be a matter of age and/or life circumstances. Nevertheless we must strive to stay healthy and hopeful! Happy Sunday, Rosemary!πŸ’˜πŸΉ

    2. I said that a bit badly. I meant that the young mums can no longer do the things like yoga etc. which meet their own needs, and at the same time they have extra stresses such as home schooling. But they do understand the need to stay healthy and try to remain positive. It was a bit of an eye-opener for me, because my own life has changed very little.

    3. Yes, the situation is especially hard on the young mums. Sigh.

  5. Sanaa, I really love that quote--so very timely--it makes me want to reread the book again. And you are so right, in your commentary, virtual connections make this whole situation easier on the heart. Thank you for the prompt!

    Happiest readings, everyone.

  8. Hello Everyone! My name is Heaven and I am new to your blog. I had been a participant of Poets United but then I disappeared for awhile. I have just found out now that that group no longer has a blog (or I may be wrong) but that this is a new one headed by two members of Poets United I already know: Magaly and Sanaa. and Rosemary too. with that being said, I go by Heaven now. disregard of Hamokine Poet. i don't want that to be my pen name here. But my author name is Jamztoma. I want to be lowkey hence is why I'm going to be using Heaven from now on. anyway, have a good day/night everyone! i am so happy to be a part of an online writers' group again! cheers!

    1. Hello, Jamztoma, I remember you well. Nice to see you back.

Yes, we had some changes late last year, as a couple of Poets United staff members resigned for reasons of health, and then a couple more because of the demands of other commitments. We were al set up for a smooth change-over, then during our usual xmas-new year vacation period, both Blogger and Wordpress started experiencing a lot of glitches. We think in hindsight this was due to Chrome browser making some 'improvements' which at first created problems – but we don't know for sure. At the time the only way to avoid the problems was to create a new blog, and to make it much leaner and cleaner. The old Poets United still exists in archive, with all its posts available. There are links from there to here, and from here to there. It made sense to change the name a bit, but still keep it recognisable as essentially the same community. As we had begun including the option of prose in some prompts, we decided to do it for all of them and changed our group name accordingly.

'About This Community' at the top of the page goes into more detail about our past and recent history and the make-up of our present team.

    2. PS I see you have given us two entries for this Pantry. Nowadays we allow two for the Wednesday prompts but only one on Sundays when, because it is 'open' rather than prompted, more people are liable to post. We'll leave yours both there this time as you are newly returned and not yet familiar with how we do things now; but normally we remove links that don't adhere to our very few conditions.

(Those conditions that we have are for practical reasons, both at community level and for our team of volunteers – who love doing this, but do also have other demands on our time.)

    5. Update: Our always-on-the-ball Magaly realised both your links went to same poem. Which made me realise you must have been trying to tell us to disregard one of the links. Anyway no harm done. Magaly has now removed one link and added the discarded name in brackets on the other, to save confusion for anyone who used it already. If you just link as Heaven in future, it will be fine. (There is another blogging poet who uses the pseudonym Heaven — Mary Grace Guevara of the dVerse community, who blogs as both Heaven and Grace. But she almost never links here, so it is unlikely to cause confusion.)

    6. Rosemary i got you. but to end all confusion, my new username shall be Humblekind Poet. since Heaven is already taken, i don't wanna run into a problem with her in the future, who knows? but i have gone ahead and changed my blogger author name to Humblekind Poet. thank you for all your help. best regards.

    7. Bless you! Glad we got it all sorted out. Thanks for being so understanding. I like Humblekind Poet.

    8. To be clearer, we SOMETIMES allow more than one link on a Wednesday – depends who's hosting the prompt and what they are willing to accommodate. It's still a good idea to read the posts carefully. (Smile.)
