“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.” ~Albus Dumbledore, in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire
Such a thought-provoking quote, don’t you think? I’ve always
thought so. I also believe that ‘easy’ and ‘right’ can be rather complex concepts,
that quite often what seems easy isn’t so, the same is true of what is right
(or perhaps wrong).
For today’s prompt, let us write new poetry or prose
inspired by the idea of choosing between what is right and what seems
easy.
As always, this prompt shall remain open for a week. We
welcome fiction and nonfiction, short and long(ish)
pieces—if
you go for prose, let the word count be 369 words or fewer. Please add the
direct link to your contribution. And after
your share your words, do take a moment
(or 3) to visit other poets and storytellers, and share your thoughts on their words. Significantly rewritten pieces are also
welcomed.
Let us write, share, and discuss our muses’ words.
Interesting prompt, thank you, Magaly. I've written an autobiographical piece about someone else doing the right thing rather than what comes easily, but it's a bit oblique. I hope you think it fits the prompt.
ReplyDeleteWell, since my contribution is so very much on the nose, I believe we've balanced things. 😁
DeleteSomeone who read the sevenling told me, "It's so much on the nose that one can't hardly breathe around it." They followed it with a, "Just kidding!" But since that's exactly how I meant it, I guess the joke is on them. 🤷🏽♀️
DeleteExtraordinary comment! Doesn't sound to me as if they were kidding. Isn't that (sometimes, anyway) what people say to get away with an insult? But as you say, joke's on them.
DeleteI don't think they were kidding either... Perhaps just too cowerdly to offer the insult head on.
DeleteThanks for a lovely prompt Magaly. Happy Wednesday to all
ReplyDeleteMuch💛love
You're welcome, Gillena. May your Wednesday be glorious.
DeleteI couldn't get the prompt to go anywhere! I couldn't get past the voice in my head saying, "But... but... those are not mutually exclusive!" So, I sat this week out.
ReplyDeleteI would say that you've just expressed the biggest issue, when it comes to right and easy. How do we know? And are they separate. Like life, choosing what's right from what seems easy can't be set in a nice easy box. Maybe there is your poem/story, in the fact that right and easy are tricky.
