Writers' Pantry #69: I Am Not Throwing Away My Shot!

Hello, Word Artists and Admirers! I have been quite loopy from having to juggle several things that I almost forgot that my second vaccination was scheduled next week. I’m hoping the side-effect fairy will be too busy celebrating Get Caught Reading Month to visit me. But even if they do, it will be totally worth it to be fully vaccinated. Besides, I have plenty of tea, warm blankets, and anime cued up on my streaming services to get me through. Bring on the shot!

After I realized that my appointment day was nigh upon me, Magaly graciously agreed to take over for this Wednesday’s Weekly Scribblings. She would like us to create poetry or prose from the point of view of a character that is hunting, being hunted, or both. Pieces that have been significantly rewritten are more than welcomed.

Now it’s time for you to share your Pantry pieces. I’m taking word wonderfulness both old or new, prose or poetry, fiction or non-fiction. One entry per person, and please keep prose pieces to 369 words or fewer.

  1. All the best for your second vaccination. Mine is not until July – and I'm happy to say I had no untoward side effects from the first. Meanwhile, happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Rosemary. I hope the second shot goes just as easy for you.

    2. You are so lucky, Rosemary. I was miserable for days after my first and second shot. But like Rommy says, it's all worth it for the prize of being fully vaccinated.

    3. It seems to vary considerably between people, and no telling beforehand how it will affect any individual. I'm indeed thankful for my good luck – and yes, I too would be glad to have the protection in any case.

  2. I have not kept up with my words lately and I've added a (mostly) true story to explain why.
    Cheers to all!

    1. LOL! No worries. Writing ought to be fun, not a chore. And we're always here to enjoy your words when you are ready to share them. :)

    2. I appreciate the thoughts, Rommy. Yes, I enjoy the writing part, it just seems I haven't enough time lately (and that was supposed to change a bit, ugh)

  3. Good day, poets!
The infection rates over here are rising but still manageable. No talk of a second lockdown, but we never know. Getting my second shot in a couple of weeks time.

    Stay safe!

    1. I hope the rates level off and drop down soon. Good luck!

    2. I am glad you are getting protection. Though I think it is still wise for us all to take sensible precautions even after that.

  4. Wishing all the Mothers out there a most wondrous day! My book club came to a screeching halt March, 2020. We are on track again .... and it feels so good!

    1. Happiest Mother's Day to you, too, Helen. And yay! on the revival of your book club. Our public library is supposed to reopen in about a week, but only 75% I believe... I hope they allow me to restart my blackout poetry group. Fingers crossed!

    4. Magaly, that blackout poetry group sounds like great fun! I must introduce blackouts to my women writers' group (which resumed meeting this year after a big gap last year during which we tried to stay active separately). Any hints as to the best way to go about it? Bring lots of source material, I guess: newspapers, magazines, advertising catalogues...? And some markers.

    5. @Rosemary, having a lot of source material is certainly the foundation--magazines and newspapers and damaged books are my go-tos. I start the group by discussing a theme or themes, you know, the get the muse juices going--since most of my group members aren't writers. Most of the fun, for me, is seeing the joy on their faces when they craft something they feel proud of. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

  5. Just had my second shot a week with absolutely NO symptoms. I wish the same for you! It's a chilly, rainy Mother's Day in my world, but I have been properly acknowledged by offspring, so I'm a happy mom, wishing the same for all the moms out there!
