Writers' Pantry #24: Mr. Frodo, I Do Understand

Hello Word Artists and Admirers. It has been a tough last few weeks here in the U.S.A., especially for those of us blessed with melanin. It doesn’t help that some of the things I’d normally indulge in for comfort just feel very tainted right now. But I know that taking time for self-care can be a radical action, especially because of the chaos. And just because some things don’t bring the cozy feelings they used to, that doesn’t mean everything I enjoy is gone. Keeping track of the things I am grateful for helps. For instance, I think I have a handle on my stomach issues and I’m happy to say matcha tea is back on my menu.

I’m no Pollyanna, and I know that those small things won’t change the very ugly reality. But in the words of Samwise Gamgee, they remind me of what’s still good in my world and what’s worth fighting for.

Thank you LoTR for not disappointing me this week, LOL

A bit of housekeeping before we go on with the sharing:

  • Rosemary shares the creativity of one of her peers from her Village of Women group for her I Wish I Had Written This series in the most recent Wild Fridays blog post.
  • For our next Weekly Scribblings, Magaly would like us to write poetry or prose where speakers or characters (or us, in the case of Slices of Life) fill in the blank in the phrase “When all else fails, I________”. We are not required to make the actual words/phrase part of our contribution.

I definitely count reading as one of the good things in my life. Hit me with your wonderful word creations, old or new, poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction. Just keep it to 369 words or fewer for your prose offerings and one entry to Mr. Linky per person please. The floor is open for your creativity.

  1. Thanks, Rommy. Great reminder – that we keep on going 'because there's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for'. May we fight with intelligence as well as heart! And may we keep on going.

  3. Good morning Rommy and all of PSU. I will be commenting on your posts later today and the whole of this week. I am usually groggy on Sundays. Thanks to all those who have commented on my entry already. I praise you for the positivity and good humor. Best regards.

  7. Rommy, I believe that when our world gets murky, few things have a stronger cleansing power than reminding ourselves of the things that are still good, good, and ours. Also, what Helen said!

    Happy readings, everyone.

  8. I hope everyone's weekend went well. Mine was extremely busy and I have to admit that I fell asleep last night at the keyboard as I was readying to post. I created new words and phrases, like: "momrnysty psudr" that I'm clueless as to what I was trying to type.

I will return throughout the week to read your postings. Cheers!
