Weekly Scribblings #7 This is a Tribute

Hello word artists and admirers! For this week's scribblings, I'd like you to to think about the word "tribute". You can make your word offering a straightforward tribute to a person, place, or thing you admire, or simply incorporate the idea of tribute in any way you see fit.

New poetry and prose are welcome, as is fiction or non-fiction. But remember, if you chose the path of prose, keep it to 369 words or less. This prompt will be open until 11:59 pm EST on the 22nd. Have fun and write on!

  1. Tribute poems are fulfilling to write, I have written a few, most carry the "A Tribute" Label. Mine today I'm not super proud but I gave it a passing grade. I mentioned my SIL after the write, her stroke has left her in pretty bad shape, especially her right side. Her wit must be on the left, she still has that. You can pray for her, she is elderly.

  2. I surprised myself with the subject of this poem, but some subjects are so insistent....

    1. Oh I've been there too. Sometimes you just have to let yourself write what you need to write.

  3. Great challenge. I normally avoid political tirades, but our political situation in the U.S.is such great fodder for sarcasm I couldn't resist.

  4. Thank you so much, Rommy for the fabulous prompt!💝 This poem would otherwise have never been written were it not for the opportunity.

I wanted to point out (for those who missed the note) that my poem is a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his songs. I tried to incorporate his magic in my work.

  5. Hello! My contribution is not a new poem ... I like to post it when we draw close to Shrove Tuesday, which this year is February 25th. If it's a problem, feel free to delete.

    2. Sorry. I should have been specific in the post about new pieces only. But the Sunday Pantry would be a perfect place to share it. :)

  7. It's 8.30 on Thursday morning and I didn't have a clue what to write. And then, there it was, the magpie in the tree, writing the poem for me! Thank you, Rommy, for a prompt that brought out my inner magpie.

    2. I am looking forward to that first day of spring. The crocus growing on the corner have got me looking for more signs of its immanent arrival.

  9. I'm late to join in, and it's nearly midnight here, so I'll be back to read and comment tomorrow. Unusually for me, I went with prose this time, trying to give tribute to something lost.

  10. I'm also a little late getting back here. Life gets in the way sometimes. My contribution sparked memories (yea) and some tears (sorry). It seems like I should get back to the positive work to make up for it. Cheers!
