Friday Writings #23: Write Your Medicine

I am alive!

Yes, my dear poets and storytellers, after spending two weeks walking around like a (coughing) corpse, I’m nearly feeling like myself again. How are things with you and yours? I hope everyone is healthy of flesh and spirit. These days, the former seems to be always threatened and the latter suffers because of it. As some of you already know, my entire immediate family was down with either COVID or severe colds. Everyone else is fine now, except me—things tend to take longer when one’s immune system isn’t all there.

Now, because when it rains it pours viruses, Rommy’s husband and her youngest have been touched by the COVID monster. Rommy (her enviable immune system) and her oldest child are standing strong. Still, send healing words/energy/wishes her way. My sweet Rommy’s 50th birthday is coming up (on the 27th), and I’m certain that a healthy family would be a really good gift.

With that in mind, today’s optional prompt—thought of by our Rommy—invites us to shape our words around the idea of “medicine for the body and/or soul”. I’m really excited about the prose and poetry this topic might brew to life. Because of rather obvious reason, healing and such often spills into my ink. I will enjoy reading the medicine you write.

As always, if this prompt isn’t for you, please share a piece of your choosing. Let it be new or old, fiction or nonfiction, short or longish (prose pieces should be 369 words or fewer). Share the direct link to your post. One link per participant. After you add your words, visit other writers, sip their inked thoughts, and let them know that they do for you.

next week, Rosemary will invite us to write poetry and prose inspired by our own landscapes.

and last, but never least,  save some healing wishes (and actions) for our Green Mother

  1. You can add Mrs. Jim and me to your list. We caught the COVID-19 while on a cruise ship. Mrs. Jim the seventh day, me from her four days later. We had to leave our room and finish our time in isolation on the floor below us. Then we had to spend another week for mine isolating in Portsmouth, U.K. Bummer!!!
We both have lingering problems now.

    1. So sorry you have had to contend with this, Jim! And likewise to Magaly, Rommy and your families! My son and his family in Melbourne had it too, and a few of my friends here; not me so far. Thank goodness the Omicron variant is not so deadly as earlier strains. (But still can be most unpleasant, I gather.)

    2. @Jim, I hope the current "lingering problems" go away very soon. Being sick for a while should be enough. COVID needs to stop being so greedy.

@Rosemary, thank goodness for small blessings. I hope we never have anything as deadly as the first strain of the virus.

  2. Good to know you are better Magaly. Both my daughter and son got the Covid and had to isolate themselves in March. They are both back to work now. Thank God.

Hope you continue to feel better and better

    1. Thank you, Gillena. Your children (and my husband) are some of the lucky ones. My husband, too, was contracted COVID some months back, and his symptoms weren't terrible. No lingering issues.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

  4. Glad youall have recovered / are recovering from COVID. I keep opening these pages...I think, just to complain to Google about not seeing the link widget. I see a graphic and click on it, and all it does is enlarge.

  5. Good Day, poets & storytellers!

While COVID is still wrecking havoc in some countries, we are getting back to 'normal' here. People are queueing up to get to Malaysia, our neighbour. We need not wear masks when outdoors. The club and pub owners are smiling. Let's hope the worst is over here. And for the rest of the world.

    Hi Magaly,
"It's good to see that you are still drawing breath, friend," as one of the characters in the video game I am playing now said. It's good to see you're on the mend. You are a warrior, remember. :)

    1. I sooo hope the worst is over! In the US, many states have removed mask mandates--the outcome hasn't been good.

Thank you for your words, Lee San.

  6. Hello, today’s my first time linking, having seen your link at Gillena’s Lunch Break. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Hope you’re feeling better today. Knock on wood, we’ve moved on to fewer infections and milder cases when we are.

  7. So glad to hear you are feeling better. I would love to comment on this week's poems, but apparently Mr. Linky has other ideas.
