Friday Writings #215: The Flamethrower at the End of the Tunnel

I’ve been rereading my favorite passages/quotes from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. Life has been… extra interesting lately—and not always in the best of ways—so, spending time in stories that make me think and cackle is soothing.

I always enjoy what brews out of Terry Pratchett’s words/worlds. So, dear poets and storytellers, you won’t be too surprised that for today’s optional prompt, I’m very happy to invite you to write poetry or prose that explores one of Pratchett’s quotes: “There was a light at the end of the tunnel, and it was a flamethrower.”

As always, add the direct link to your response to Mister Linky. One post per participant, please. 369 words maximum. Let your entry be new or old. Write to the prompt or to a topic of your choosing. Visit other writers. Read what brews out of their words… and share your thoughts.

next week, well invite you to write about dancing, a specific style or dancing in general.

Friday Writings #136: “begin by doing small things”

How do you begin a new project, get involved in a new cause, or start over after life has forced you to take a break from the kind of living you’ve always done? Do you make a list? Do you leap into things and hope for the best? How do you begin to live differently… when you must?

All those questions have been dancing in my skull. And the more I think about them, the more I believe that, for me, doing a wee bit at the time is the only way to go. With that in mind, dear poets and storytellers, for today’s optional prompt, I invite you to write poetry or prose inspired by a quote that’s starting to feel like a mantra for me and my current needs: “We can begin by doing small things…” ~ Grace Lee Boggs

Required: Add the direct link to your response to Mister Linky. One post per participant, please. 369 words maximum (excluding title), for prose and for poetry.

Optional: You may share old or new pieces of poetry or prose, and you may write to the prompt or to a topic of your choosing.

Requested (not compulsory but strongly recommended): Visit other writers. Read their contributions. Let them know how you feel about their inked feels.

for next week, our Rommy will ask us to be inspired by the phrase “at the last minute”.

Friday Writings #130: About that Quote…

Greetings, word lovers. I hope you are having a very good day. Mine isn’t too bad. I’m home after spending some quality time at the hospital, my garden is starting to bloom, my pain isn’t as debilitating as it was last week, and being on bed rest meant that I could listen to audiobooks for as long as I was conscious—silver linings and all that. Now, if I could only write in the same way… Sigh. Dictation is a bit problematic for me. I’m a chronic reviser, and my speech-to-text program is not good for that. But you know what it’s great for? Saving quotes! And I so love me a quote
(or 100).

Speaking of reading and quotations and other awesome things, for today’s optional prompt, I invite you to write poetry or prose inspired by a quote from the last book you read. Please share the actual quote and book title at end of your post (because effective quote hoarding takes a village).

Required: Add the direct link to your response to Mister Linky. One post per participant, please, 369 words maximum (excluding title), for prose and for poetry.

Optional: You may share old or new pieces of poetry or prose, and you may write to the prompt or to a topic of your choosing.

Requested (not compulsory but strongly recommended): Visit other poets and storytellers. Read their contributions. Share your thoughts on their words.

for next week, Rommy will be asking us to repurpose. She wishes us to write poetry or prose about something (someone? 🤭) we’ve recycled or repurposed in our lives.

Friday Writings #93: Scent of a Poem

Hello, Word Artists and Admirers! Ever notice how some scents just bring you back to a specific time or place? Although I don’t eat it much at all these days, the smell of sausage cooking reminds me of Sunday mornings when I was growing up and my mom having a little time to make a hearty breakfast before heading off to mass. Some scents can also evoke very specific feelings too. For instance, the scent released when water first touches matcha always makes me feel relaxed.

For today’s optional prompt, I invite you to incorporate the sense of smell somewhere into your piece. I'm taking poetry and prose, fiction and non-fiction. Just be sure to keep your entries to 369 words or fewer and one entry per person.

Next week, Magaly will invite you to create poetry or prose which includes the following words: storm, ink, love.
