Welcome back, my dearest poets and
storytellers! Did you enjoy your break? Did you take a break? Since I did a
considerable amount of lurking around your cyber-homes, I know many of you just
kept the words brewing into being—don’t feel too bad, I couldn’t take a real
break either. I spent the last days of December 2020 and the first days of
January 2021 reading (Soulless by
Gail Carriger, Dawn by Octavia E. Butler, The Sun and Her Flowers
by Rupi Kaur, Hope Rides Again by Andrew Shaffer…) and rewriting my own work (I took a page out of Chrissa’s book,
and decided that 2021 would be a year for “finishing drafts”).
Did you read
anything interesting while we were on “break”? Have you made any writing plans
for 2021? Go ahead, tell us… we are listening (and reading, of
course).
Now, while the
topic of looking back and writing forward is still dancing in our minds, let me invite
you to revisit our 2020 Weekly Scribblings selection, and write new poetry
or prose using one of our old prompts. Please add the title (and link, if you can) of your chosen prompt to your
post. Don’t feel like searching? No problem. Here are some choices:
1.
Weekly Scribblings #43: Found Poems and Erasures
2.
Weekly Scribblings #40: Walking Away
3.
Weekly Scribblings #35: The Joy of Rest
4.
Weekly Scribblings #31: What Makes You Smile?
5.
Weekly Scribblings #28: Seeing Things
6.
Weekly Scribblings #25: Well, That Was Unexpected
7.
Weekly Scribblings #22: It Takes a Bit of Discipline
8.
Weekly Scribblings #10: Early Bird or Night Owl?
9.
Weekly Scribblings #9: Contagion
Again,
welcome back, and I hope that 2021 is a year of healing and growing for all.
This
prompt will remain open for a week. One link per participant, please. If you go for prose, the word count should be 369 words or fewer. Let us write
(and read)!
Great to be back! Thanks for hosting, Magaly, with such an inspired and inspirational prompt (or list of prompts).
ReplyDeleteI was actually very lazy during our vacation, taking an almost complete break from writing and catching up with lots of reading. I finally started 'A Confederacy of Dunces', which I've been meaning to read for years, and am still in the middle of enjoying it. There's nothing else quite like it! I also read a Mary Oliver I had not previously discovered: Dream Work – profound, lovely and uplifting, as you would expect. I also re-read most of Georgette Heyer's Regency romances and then found that, although she is the undoubted queen of the genre, several modern authors have written some very entertaining ones too, so I have been thoroughly immersed in this particular form of escapism. I've hardly watched TV or Netflix or anything, but Rommy told me just the other day about the Bridgerton TV series (more Regency romance) and after only two episodes so far, I'm totally hooked. I realise there are books too; will perhaps catch up with them after enjoying Season 1 on Netflix ... a little more slowly now that it's time to get back to my writing, teaching, editing, etc.
You know, I have never read A Confederacy of Dunces in English. It might be time for that!
DeleteIt's the only language I'd be able to read it in!
DeleteWhen I read it, it was the only language I could read it in.

Right back at you, Gillena. 😉
DeleteHappy New Year, everyone! I'm looking forward to continuing to respond to these prompts and read your beautiful words!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Jenna!
DeleteIt was a fun write, I had used this prompt (# 2, Walking away) before, it was a fun write then too. Thank you Magaly. My vote is if you don't have time to
ReplyDeletepick a prompt that you use the list or the like again.
Thank You for hosting.
..
You're most welcome, Jim. When I thought of the prompt, I was sure that I was going to choose a prompt I had skipped in the past. But I ended up using one I had already written for--the muse wants what the muse wants. :-)
DeleteAnd I went back to see, I had answered several before. #25 I had written twice before, if I had know I may have written more about Winky and Blinky, the two naughty girls. And after this write, I found that I had written a cute little stair step bit.
DeleteHave a Happy New Year, better for sure than 2020.
..
..
Right back at you, Jim. I hope 2021 rocks!
DeleteI don't received prompt email notifications for this blog any longer, which is a pity because the prompts are fabulous. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
ReplyDeleteThat is very strange... How are you following? Through Blogger, Bloglovin', or email?
DeleteI follow the blog through all three and get the notifications. After you let me know how you follow, I will see if other people are having the same issue.
DeleteBy email notification.
Deleteps: When I try to re-enter my email address in the Follow by Email box (top right), it says that I'm already signed up.
DeleteOkay, I've refreshed the feed. I'm not sure if that will work, but it might. If it doesn't work--if you don't get the next prompt via email--we will troubleshoot some more after the Sunday post goes up. For now, would you mind sending me a message at magalyguerrero @ live . com? That way, I can send you the link to new prompts until the matter is resolve.
DeleteOh, and please try to re-follow by email. I think that it will allow you to do it now, after the feed was refreshed. 🤞🏽
DeleteI don't get notification anymore either. But I never read any ofd them unless there is trouble. I use Yahoo and a lot end up in Spam, I don't read all my spam anyway. If I notice one there, I notify Yahoo that it is span. Mine all filter to a comments file and should not be in the Inbox. But then I don't write as much as you guys, only two or three here, one on my meme blog, and then once or twice a year on my "help" blog. Christmas time I don't write for comments, just family and friends care about "Jim's little Christmas tree farm" anyway.
DeleteBut I do look below my post and TRY to ANSER EVERY POSTR LEFT ON THEIR OWN BLOG if they have left one here and I hadn't been before to theirs..
..
..
Thanks for letting me know, Jim. That is very strange. I hope the tweaking I've been doing makes it so that subscriptions start working again.
