Weekly Scribblings #59: Wait For It

Hello, Word Artists and Admirers! For this week’s prompt, I’m revisiting a favorite of mine, Hamilton. I’ve selected five lines from the musical to inspire our writing:

“I’m looking for a mind at work.”

“History has its eyes on you.”

“Talk less. Smile more.”

“Dying is easy, young man. Living is harder.”

“Love doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints.”

You don't need to use the exact wording, but please do include which one(s) you used to birth your creations somewhere in your post. Share your twist on these lines in either poetry or prose form, fiction or non-fiction. Just remember to keep all prose to 369 words or fewer and just one entry per person.

  1. I know little about 'Hamilton', but these are all good lines regardless of context.

    Thanks for hosting, Rommy.

    1. It was wildly popular here in the U.S. and still has a lot of dedicated fans. Some of the lines have made their way on to t-shirts and even protest posters, so I thought they might be good to inspire a few words too.

  2. Trivia. Apparently, the line “I’m looking for a mind at work” originally came from the West Wing and the creators of Hamilton decided to use it.

    1. I didn't know that. My husband was a big fan of West Wing though. I keep meaning to watch it.

  4. Happy Wednesday everyone!

I've always loved musicals. And I wish I had seen Hamilton. I did watch and love The West Wing. The thought of how good and caring a states leader could be.

I had a lot of fun with incorporating all five lines into one story. And since it was a story I pushed myself to reach 369 words exactly.

    1. Impressive! LOL, I think I put off watching the West Wing the last few years because I would be too envious of the TV people having a sane leader, but I guess it's safe for me to watch now.

  5. If you have Disney Plus or something like that you can watch Hamilton. FYI. Anyway WE LOVE THE MUSICAL. Thank you for this challenge.

    1. LOL, my family and I watched it the day it premiered on Disney Plus. Darling Youngest and I had to contain ourselves not to sing along though. :D

  6. This is such a cool prompt! I really like the musical Hamilton, and some lines from it inspired me immensely when it first came out. Let's see what I can come up with. :)
