Weekly Scribblings #4: New Tricks

Hello word artists and admirers! Did any of you make new year’s resolutions? How are they going? It can be hard to make them stick sometimes. That might be why the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is such a common one. Though I find that if you can find the right trick, and make it suitably enticing, even old dogs will pick them up.

So for this prompt, I’d like you to consider that phrase (“you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”) and express any thoughts you had on it in either poetry or prose form. You can choose to go with either fiction or non-fiction, but any prose submissions should be no longer than 369 words. Mr. Linky awaits your new words and will be open until 11 a.m. EST Friday. Happy writing!

  1. Thanks for an interesting prompt, Rommy. Maybe it depends on the dog! I’ve shared something about not being able to, in the case of one particular ... well, not-dog.

    1. It definitely depends on the dog and the situation and how flexible a body might be *cough*.

  3. Perfect prompt for me, today. I just learned that old flesh and bones and I must learn one more new trick, if we are to survive (and you know how much I love being contrary).

Thank you for the inspiration, Rommy!

  4. I really liked this prompt and had a few verses worked up. Doing some cleanup, I work with my cell smart phone, all went Pfft!! So I ginned up this simple one. I have a lot of dog posts on my other blog, quite a few for this one.

  6. Hi everyone. My town is having a massive internet outage so I'm on very limited accessibility at the moment. I will get back to everyone tomorrow, if Comcast can get its act together.
