Weekly Scribblings #2: Myth-placed

Hello word artists and admirers! I am delighted to make my debut on this spiffy new site. For my first time hosting Weekly Scribblings, I'm going to keep things close to my wheelhouse and go with a favorite topic of mine, mythology.

Today I'd like you to craft your pieces around the idea of a mythological time or place. This challenge is open to both poetry and prose pieces (fiction or non-fiction), but if you choose to go with prose please keep it to 369 words or fewer. Mr. Linky will be open until 11am Friday. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

  1. Wishing you a happy debut, Rommy! I chose Celtic mythology, which is close to my heart. I've been to the Cliffs of Moher and they are impressive!

  3. I liked this prompt, Rommy but struggled with the right words. That is my shortcoming - not the prompt. I will return to read other posts because time is slipping away. Thank you all.

    1. You and I seem to be walking the same woods, Joel. I'm about to give it a second go. Fingers crossed.

    2. You've both got a bit of time to ponder. I will be happy to take a look once they are finished. :)

  4. Fantastic prompt, Rommy. I seem to have an idea overload at the moment--I want to retell a Dominican myth, I want to write about Pandora, I think I heard Loki giggling in my head--so many ideas... I shall find my ink-center and return with my contribution.

  6. This type of prompt, having to do with a mythical place, is probably the most difficult for me...Nevertheless, I will try to write something and will share it if it is passable! I enjoy reading everyone else's posts.

  7. Wonderful prompt. Wasn't sure where I would go with this one... thank goodness I didn't get lost in a maze of my own design!

  8. I agree with Magaly, this prompt gave me idea overload. :-D
Got some pieces that didn't add upp to work on later, and landed in a revisit to a place I've written about before.

  9. Oh yes, I had so many ideas, wrote some bad ones, and then settled on something. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

    1. Oh I know I came up with a bunch of terrible ideas before I settled on one.

  11. I have come up with a non-fiction piece about something I, like most Australians, have known about forever - but it was only with a recent reminder that it really caught my interest.

    1. I thought it was really cool. Thank you for sharing it. I've heard of Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, and Johnny Appleseed here in the US, but it's neat to hear about similar folk tales from other places.
