Friday Writings #55: Bleeding Hearts

Greetings, my dear poets and storytellers. The year is nearly over. Can you believe it? Some of you are probably excited about the upcoming holiday season, but my own elation comes from the fact that this November and December bring (or brought back) some of my favorite TV shows: Criminal Minds, His Dark Materials, and the show that inspired today’s prompt, Wednesday.

What does this have to do with today’s optional prompt? Well, you see, I wrote a short story about Wednesday Addams some years back, and I was a bit shocked when I tried to remember what the story was about… and remembered almost nothing. All I could recall was something about a bleeding heart or bleeding hearts. So, of course, inviting you to create poetry or prose that includes a bleeding heart (figuratively or literally) made complete sense… in my head.

If your muse and you aren’t in a bleeding-heart sort of mood, share any piece you prefer. Let said piece be new or old, fiction or nonfiction, short or longish (369 words or fewer). Add the direct link to your post; one link per participant, please. Visit other writers to read (and comment on) what they’ve chosen to bleed into ink and share.

next week, Rommy will ask us to write about coziness or something that makes us feel cozy.

Yep, bleeding hearts come in all sorts of shapes and shades and such… 😘

  1. Ha, what lovely synchronicity! I recently discovered the Wednesday TV series, adore it like mad and have been bingeing. (Even though I was much in love with the original Lurch and think the new one can't compare.)

    1. I feel the same about the original Lurch and the Gomez from the 90s movies. But like you, I'm quite addicted to the show. I did some serious binging, too. Now, I want to watch it again s l o w l y to capture any yumminess I might've missed the first time around.

    2. Yes, I agree about the two versions of Gomez too. Nevertheless it's a treat! (And I think Thing might even be better in this incarnation.)

  2. I heard that the original Lurch and original Wednesday were buddies on the set.

    1. @Priscilla, cool! The memes of them dancing on and offset always looked very realistic.

  4. Nothing could possibly come close even to matching the T.V. Show

  5. Good day, Poets & Storytellers!
Being enjoying the games of the World Cup so far. Right now, USA is playing the Netherlands and the chances of the USMNT reaching the quarterfinals is not looking good.
Enough of sports. I think my poem could qualify as a 'bleeding heart'. 😁

    1. Ha, I just finished watching the Socceroos lose to Argentina. A well-deserved win; they played brilliant soccer which would have been a joy to watch – if only I hadn't been wanting us to beat them.

    2. @dsnake1, I was recently asked who I was cheering for in the World Cup and I just gave them a blank look--I haven't watched a game! So, you'll have to keep me posted. 😅

  6. Hi, it's been a long time. My poem isn't exactly bleeding hearts or is it? :)

  7. I didn't write to the prompt, but thank you and I am off to read the other poets. Thank you for all the effort and time and work you do to provide a poets corner here. Love you all!
