Friday Writings #29: Little Rituals

Hello, Word Artists and Admirers! I find that when things get a little bit crazy, it’s good to have some reliable little rituals in place. These are small touch points in our day-to-day lives that can act as moments of calm, mindfulness, or even just a break when we need it. No one should be surprised to learn that I consider my first morning cup of tea to be an important personal ritual.

For those of us who would like a prompt to work with, I’d like to suggest writing poetry or prose about the small rituals or daily routines that make up our lives. I’m open to both fiction and non-fiction. Just please be sure to keep your prose pieces to 369 words or fewer and one entry per person.

Next week, Rosemary will ask us to write something inspired by a favorite book or books.

  1. My life is pretty regular with no schedule. Just a natural routine, especially in the mornings. It was a fun write, I've done it before but I did start from scratch. AND my life was different back in the day, 2006. Here is the link for my search on "routine", the 2008 one was first of quite a few.

Or click on the "Routine" label below, I am in the process of putting this new Label on those older blogs. Google has also failed me, many of my pictures are now huge. Google or Hackers.
    - NOTE: I will read everyone's who has commented on my blog plus some others. For the Blogger folk my comments will have to be anonymous IF you accept them they should post. Google has messed me up.

    2. Thanks for letting me know who you were in my comments section, Jim. It was a big help.

Magaly, I hope you get a mellow routine settled soon!

  2. It's a lovely prompt, Rommy, but I've had an exceptionally busy week with little time for writing something especially, so I'm serving up another episode of the poets in prison story instead.

  3. As you might suspect, mi querida Rommy, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the prompt was OCD. I spent quite some time thinking about my love-hate relationship with rituals (or, in my case, compulsions). I know your prompt wasn't inviting us to focus on that exactly, but... that is where my mind went.

  4. I went in reverse gear with one of my routines .... a potentially expensive routine I have given up, thankfully. Our local shelter is mighty happy I can tell you. Enjoy your Friday!
