Writers’ Pantry #47: Breathe in the Words

I am exhausted. I know that is a terrible way to start a post, but it doesn’t keep it from being true. It’s good exhausted though. You know, the kind of fatigue that comes after completing a necessary task (or 7,000) successfully? So, I shan’t complain too much. I will get a good night sleep (I’m scheduling this rather late), and then I will delight in your words after breakfast. Reading what others spill into being can be so very soothing.

So, my beloved poets and storytellers, share your poetry or prose. Let your contribution be new or old, short or long(ish), deliciously bright or intriguingly gloomy. One entry per participant, please. And if you go for prose, let the word count be 369 words or fewer. As always, Mr. Linky will remain open for a week. Bring on the yummy words.

- for our next Weekly Scribblings, Rommy would like us to write new poetry or prose while thinking about “things [we] learned to love because [we] loved someone else.”

(and I suspect that for many of us, the same is true about what we read here,
so let us read and breathe and such…)

  1. I'm glad it's a 'good exhausted'.

I do like reading books to 'fill up and live' and have been doing a lot of that lately. And I also love the varied and wonderful feast of words we get here. Thanks, Magaly, for encouraging us.

    1. There is something magical about spending eating up books. I've been enjoying that some of the work I've had to do lately is repetitious and doesn't require much thought. This leave my brain free to listen to audiobooks. And that makes all the work and the tired feel so much more enjoyable.

  2. Completing tasks successfully is a high for me nowadays. I hope to get more done in the coming weeks. Thanks, Magaly for the "good exhausted." Off I hop....

    1. Exactly! I think the high we get from finishing things is one of the reasons why I love cleaning my home and reorganizing so much. I love the smile that brews out of completion. The same goes for short works we share around the web. We might not have a completed novel every week, but reading each other thoughts on the pieces we link is rather satisfying.

  4. I bought a new TV in 2019 after being without one for many years, saying well i'm not much of a TV person anyway.
NOW i do not regret it, for an NOW a very TV watching person, LUVING the Netflix series (even though i luv the aesthetic of holding a book rather than a kindle to read).

    1. Having some sort of storytelling to keep us going is fantastic, Gillena. When I'm recovering from a procedure, few things are as awesome as binging on the latest series. I am glad you have your TV. What are you watching now?

  5. I would do without a lot before I went without books. When the libraries were closed I was beside myself! It must be a physical book between my hands too, nothing digital. I rarely watch TV.

    1. Some time ago, after chemotherapy treatment, I develop a joint problem that kept me from being able to hold a physical book (or a spoon, for that matter). It was when I started taking advantage of the text-to-speech feature in electronic readers, when I started listening to audiobooks. At first, it wasn't easy to get used to not touching a print book. These days, I love words in all formats. Another thing, now I have an excuse to get the print edition, the electronic edition, and the audio edition of the same title. Thank goodness for silver linings!

  6. Haven't been around for a while. Nice to be back. Will return to read the lovely poems soon.
Hope you get some good rest. And glad you can get all formats of books.

    1. It is so good to see you back, Myrna! I got some rest, thank you, and plan to get some more. And I, too, am glad for the wonder of easily found book formats. When it comes to being thankful, that is one of the first things on my list.

  7. I much prefer the good sort of exhausted over the one that comes after an extended period of existential dread.
