Friday Writings #47: Hobby Time

Hello, Word Artists and Admirers! In the early days of the pandemic, a lot of people started dusting off discarded hobbies or picking up new ones. Besides filling up a lot of newfound time, hobbies have a way of bringing us comfort and fun. Darling Youngest played around with a ukulele. Darling Eldest started working on some side writing projects. My husband was always a pretty good cook but he definitely leveled up his skills. I spent a fair amount of time figuring out how to passably replicate the feel of a tea room to practice at home.

For today's optional prompt, I suggest writing about a hobby that brings you peace. I'll take old and new pieces, poetry and prose. Just please keep them to 369 words or fewer, and one entry per person please.

Next week, Rosemary will ask us to write about the color red.

  1. My Hobbies would have been a wonderful writing prompt for me but I am in time constraint and had just finished writing for a different prompt for another group to write of the Beat Generation. I sort of liked my product and wanted to share it here. It is mostly true. I do have hobbies and would have liked sharing them here. Golf, chess, old cars, cast iron model cars, and blogging of course. So thank you Rommy, I'll be a reader for you today, it would have been nice.

    1. Oh yes, I would like someday to attend one of the writing group get togethers that they have still around in Houston.

    2. Perhaps you can put the idea on hold and write about your hobbies another time.

  4. Good day, Poets & Storytellers!
I guess blogging about poetry can be considered as a hobby that brings me some peace. Doesn't bring in the money, but gives some satisfaction. Maybe playing video games too. 😁

    1. Maybe??? I would say definitely! Th reason I have never friended you on facebook is because your profile appears to be solely devoted to video games. Not my thing! (Though my firstborn is an avid lifelong player.) But perhaps it is not peace the games deliver, so much as drama?

    2. Playing well-developed video games can be therapeutic. Puzzle games exercise the mind. Racers/shooters hone the reactions. When I was working, i relieve the work stress by playing video games. The trick is to not to be addicted to it. And poetry of course. And i think you have read some of my poetry based on video games? :)

    3. Oh I firmly believe that absolutely everything can be a subject for poetry!

  5. Hm, I don't think I started any new hobbies during the pandemic. Just got closer to the old ones. But the not-so-Little Princess got into baking.
