Hello, word artists and admirers! I can’t say I’ve always
embraced change as gracefully as I would have liked—especially if the change
wasn’t my idea! But curiosity always wins out for me. Eventually I want to know
more about the change and can even become enthusiastic about it, if there is
something new to learn. While there was lots about my school days I didn’t
like, learning new things wasn’t one of them. Have you learned anything new
recently that made you light up?
Our new Friday Writings format means we are open to pieces on any topic, but if you’d like a little something to prompt your muse, I’d like to suggest drawing inspiration from a subject you studied at school.

Please share your poetry or prose, fiction or non-fiction,
old or new. Just be sure to keep your prose pieces to 369 words or fewer. One entry per person please and thank you.
A bit of housekeeping:
- How do you feel about blog badges? Rosemary, Magaly and I discussed them in the past, and ended deciding that we weren’t going to use them. Okay, Rosemary and I didn’t really see the need for badges and Magaly pouted. So when Ornery Owl said she created a badge (thank you so much!) and we were welcome to use it, Magaly (the pouter) did a happy dance, while chanting, “See? I knew we needed some stinking badges!” And then she started sending us different versions of the blog badges she had created. We decided to keep this one (add it to your posts, we sure will 😊):
For those of us who like prompts, next Friday
Rosemary will invite us to reinterpret a well-known saying.
I originally thought my first entry would be a one-off and I would move to something else but reactions were positive which meant I couldn't let the story hang forever.
ReplyDeleteInstallment #2 is here (and a few more to come). While technically not about learning, this is my first venture into "crime/mystery" stories. Which is kind of like learning something new, right? :)
Oh goody! Eager to read.
DeletePS Please note, the prompt is optional. So, point taken about learning something new – and it wouldn't matter if your piece had nothing to do with learning.
DeleteYep, as Rosemary said, the prompt is optional, and trying something new is close enough for me anyway.
DeleteThanks, Rommy, for a prompt which touched me deeply – and unexpectedly, as is sometimes the way with prompts.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks to ornery owl for stepping up to make a Friday Writings badge – which drew our attention to the fact that we needed one. Love your creation! But, having at last realised the need, we wanted something which matched the style of our home page here. (Thanks also to a few people who created badges for our previous features, or for P&SU in general, which we didn't get around to acting on or even acknowledging, e.g. Gillena, Rob Kistner.... But it was your initiative as well as ornery owl's which finally convinced us it was time to address the need.)
I am so glad you were able to make good use of the prompt! And I am thankful for our resourceful members too.
DeleteWhat Rosemary said!
DeleteI have a link to last week's entry that I did not intend to repeat (my apologies). My computer since Patch Tuesday has not been friendly or most likely it's the IBKAC (Interface Between Keyboard And Chair) - Please delete.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Done. Please try again with correct link. Post it here in the comments if you like and one of the team will add it for you.
DeleteYep, we'll be happy to take it once you are ready. :)
DeleteA good Friday to all
ReplyDeleteMuch💛love
A lovely Friday to you too.
DeleteThanks for the shout-out! I'm a design school dropout. My visions were a bit too quirky for making a career in the advertising industry, but I love to create badges and logos.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I majored in Biology. And yet somehow, language arts always pulls me in.
DeleteSociety can be so limiting. I'm so glad you are still finding ways to use your talent.
DeleteHappy Friday. :D I'm sharing a silly one today.
ReplyDeleteSilly is always good. :)
DeleteI'm late because I got my midnights mixed up!
ReplyDeleteLOL. I think you're not the only one getting used to our change of day. But it's harder to be really late now we have all week.
DeleteNo worries, I was late too. And it's my prompt. :D
DeleteGood day, Poets!
ReplyDeleteI went for a booster shot for COVID yesterday, and the arm is sore as heck. Didn't affect the typing on the keyboard though. :)
Sorry about the arm, glad you're boosted. (I have to wait until January for mine.) And glad you can still type!
DeleteI'm due to get my booster in a couple of weeks. Not looking forward to the sore arm, but I'll deal.
DeleteI got mine last month. Lucky enough, the reaction wasn't nearly as terrible as the first one. Hope your arm is feeling better now.
DeleteI am super late to the reading party, but I am here. Hm... a new thing I learned lately. Well, a friend recently taught me that in cirrus means feathery hair in Russian. Which gives sense to the name cirrus clouds, since they look like feathers. I thought that was very cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting, Rommy!
Now I've learned something new too! Thanks!
DeleteGlad I learned something new too. :)
DeleteThat is indeed very cool!
DeleteHello fellow writers, I hope you're having a restful Sunday.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good! I plan on planting some irises for the spring before it gets too cold today.
Deletehi thank you so very much for all your help~
ReplyDeleteGreetings Poets! Happy Wednesday .... for some reason I cannot reach the website of Psyche .... is anyone else having an issue?
ReplyDeleteI can't reach it now either – though I did earlier!
Deleteok, i thought this would be a fun project, interesting and entertaining... i posted it under the name ziggy, hope you like =)
ReplyDeleteI love Ferlinghetti! This is a great tribute to him; thanks for giving us a look.
DeleteReally the links above are for your own work, and one per person each time. Next time there's something like this you'd like to share (and I'm sure many of us would love to see) a better option would be to post the link at your blog, from the post you're sharing.
oops, sorry about that. thank you letting me know rosemary =)
ReplyDeleteNo worries. You're fairly new here. And it wasn't a BAD thing to wish to share that post with us!
