Greetings, dear poets and
storytellers. How are things in your bit of the world? In New York City,
temperatures have been peculiarly high for the time of year. As I am typing this,
the thermometer is displaying a balmy 61°F (16°C)—five days
away from the first day of winter. I can’t say that it isn’t nice to see flowers
blooming in December, but… it’s also disturbing. Anyone who still
argues
that climate change isn’t real is delusional.
What’s the weather doing around your bit of the world?
Today’s
optional prompt has little to do with weird weather. Since
this is going to be our last Friday Writings this year, I thought it
appropriate to write a “Dear 2021” open letter, in verse or in prose. If this topic isn't doing it for you,
you’re welcome to write about any topic you choose. Let your contributions be
new or old, short or longish... (prose
pieces should be 369 words or fewer). One link per participant,
please. Remember to visit other writers. Delight in their words. Let them know what their writings do for you.
I hope this Holiday Season is pleasant for you and yours. Even if the world continues to grow slightly insane and rather infectious, I wish all of you to find something lovely and good to hold close to your heart. May 2022 bring better things to all of us.
We shall return on the 7th of January, 2022. On that day—if you want a prompt—our Rommy would like us to write poetry or prose inspired by New Year’s Resolutions (your resolution, how much you love or loathe resolutions, the meaning of resolutions… It’s your choice).
See you on January 7th, my dearest poets and
storytellers!
A very timely prompt. I'm sure people will find plenty to say.
ReplyDeleteIt surprises and amuses me that you experience that temperature as 'balmy'. I would find it much too cold!
I would've described 61 degrees as "balmy" in May, for instance. But in December? In New York City? It's definitely unusually warm.
DeleteThis was a fun write, although I've not written many letter poems they are fun to me. Letters are a dying media given over mainly to viral eMail and texting, both personal and for business matters. We mustn't give them over, as poetry writers sometimes use rhyme, meter, and form to keep these disciplines alive.
ReplyDeleteMagaly, thank you for the prompt and for hosting.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes to all who read here.
..
p.s. I wanted so badly to spell out the "B" Word but compromised. I have family and children reading mine, I have to satisfy the kiddie filters and readers expectations of me.
Delete..
Yes, there are times when we must honour other people's wishes for their children. (I have been known to express things more discreetly than usual in performance – while giving an explanatory preamble which goes over the kiddies' heads whilst leaving the adults clear enough on my meaning.)
DeleteJim, I hope that at least a few of us keep on writing letters. Some thing should never be abandoned. Happiest Holidays to you, too.
DeleteYes, Season's Greetings to you too, Jim, and to all our P&SU family. Stay safe and well!
ReplyDeleteDear Friends, Thanks for your prompts, visits and comments
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays
much💟love
Happiest Holidays to you and yours, Gillena! And thank you for the words.
DeleteGood day, Poets & Storytellers! (or rather it's good morning, as it's way past midnight here and threatening to rain).
ReplyDeleteSo I wrote a Dear 2021 letter and sweated over the deadline. It was a busy week with little time for writing.
Happy Holidays.
Deadline! What deadline? Just kidding. I, too, have been sweating over deadlines these last few weeks. It seems everything (and everyone *cough*) is happening at the last minute and at the same time.
DeleteHappiest Holidays, Lee San!
I wrote a heartfelt letter an a couple appropriate pieces of poetry. May the holidays bring you joy, and may 2022 bring you piece! 🙂✌🏼❤️
ReplyDeleteMay your holidays be just as wonderful, Rob, and I wish you a 2022 full of everything you wish.
DeleteI am late again. :) Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWe're happy to see you any time. And same to you! (Except it's Monday in Australia, lol.
DeleteHappy, Healthy Holidays to you all, my virtual friends.
ReplyDeleteMay it indeed be so! And the same back to you.
DeleteHappiest Holiday Season to you, too, Sara!
DeleteJust stumbled across this amazing place and excited to explore!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! :)
Lovely to see you here! And what a beautiful poem you shared! Hard to leave comments on your actual post, though, unless one is already on Instagram. Is it possible to set up that facility on your Wix site?
